The oldest colonial building in South Africa, the Castle of Good Hope, at Darling St and Buitenkant St in Cape Town, is an iconic star fortress that still upholds a few of its ceremonial traditions. Catch the key ceremony at 10am, cannon firing at 11am and a tour of the site at noon (there are a range of times throughout the day), and in between, there's just time to explore the Castle's museums of the military, Cape art and ceramics.
