Right in the middle of San Francisco Botanical Garden, the 5-acre Japanese Tea Garden was originally created in 1894 and maintained for many years by Japanese landscape architect Makoto Hagiwara, who also lived among its peaceful blossoms. Discover his family's story - as well as that of the garden - with a tour this Friday at 9.30am - meet just inside the entrance, and at this time you can get into the gardens free too.
